Embassy delegation advocates for the protection of rainforests and the rights of Indigenous peoples

At Zurich Climate Week in Switzerland, held from 4 to 9 May 2026, the Indigenous Embassy delegation, represented by First Secretary Simone Reshenoma Hänel, participated in the event and engaged in numerous discussions with representatives from the private sector, finance, and various organizations. The planned reforestation initiatives in the Ucayali region of Peru are designed not only to protect the Amazon rainforest and its ecosystems, but also to strengthen the rights and improve the living conditions of Indigenous peoples.
Zurich Climate Week 2026 is a major platform for climate action, featuring more than 250 events dedicated to the development of practical solutions to address climate change. Key focus areas include finance, energy, and sustainability.
Regenerative agriculture combined with large-scale reforestation is gaining increasing importance. “Impact investing” is one of the central themes of Climate Week, as a growing number of investors seek to support projects with measurable positive environmental and social impact. From the perspective of the financial sector, such initiatives must be scalable and quantifiable, particularly in relation to carbon credits, for which demand continues to rise.
At the same time, interest in philanthropic engagement is expanding, with more individuals seeking to direct their wealth toward charitable and socially beneficial causes. In this context, women were encouraged to take a more active role in decision-making processes related to wealth allocation, allowing more intuitive and value-driven perspectives to inform such discussions, which may contribute to meaningful systemic change.
The overarching vision is to support decision-making processes that are aligned with ecological balance and respect for the Earth. Through its close connection to Amazonian plant medicine, the Embassy maintains a profound relationship with nature, symbolically representing the living wisdom of the forest itself. The relationships established during the event offer promising prospects for the development of future collaborative projects.
Ambassador Roger Bardales expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in Europe and continues to actively advance project implementation in Peru.
