Embassy delegation speaks for the rainforests and Indigenous peoples

At Zurich Climate Week in Switzerland from May 4 to 9, 2026, the Embassy delegation of Indigenous peoples, represented by First Secretary Simone Reshenoma Hänel, was present and engaged in numerous discussions with representatives from business, finance and organizations. The planned reforestation projects in the Ucayali region of Peru focus not only on protecting the rainforest and its ecosystem, but also on improving the rights and living conditions of Indigenous peoples.

Climate Week Zurich 2026 is an important platform for climate action, featuring more than 250 events dedicated to developing concrete solutions to climate change. The main focus lies particularly on the topics of finance, energy, and sustainability.

Regenerative agriculture combined with reforestation is becoming increasingly important. “Impact investing” is one of the key themes of Climate Week, as more and more people want to invest in projects that have a positive impact on the global climate and the environment. From the perspective of the financial sector, such projects must be scalable and measurable in order to generate carbon credits, for which there is strong and growing demand.

At the same time, interest in philanthropic engagement is increasing, with more people seeking to use their wealth for charitable and socially beneficial purposes. In this context, women were encouraged to take on a more prominent role in decision-making processes relating to the transfer of assets and to allow their intuitive leadership to guide these discussions, what can bring a tremendous change.

The vision and goal is to make decisions in harmony with the Earth. Through its close connection to Amazonian plant medicine, the Embassy maintains a deep bond with nature and symbolically represented the plants of the jungle themselves. The newly established relationships give hope that the first collaborative projects may soon become a reality.

Ambassador Roger Bardales expressed his satisfaction with the developments in Europe and continues to actively drive the projects in Peru forward.
