Roger Bardales officially recognized by the Republic of Peru as Indigenous Ambassador

Roger Bardales was officially recognized by the Congress of the Republic of Peru as Cultural Ambassador of the Shipibo Indigenous Peoples, in acknowledgment of his role as a representative and promoter of the traditions and culture of the Peruvian Amazon, as well as a defender of Indigenous rights.

During a ceremony held at the Congress of the Republic, he received his certificate from the President and delivered a speech outlining the mission and ongoing projects of the Amazon Indigenous Embassy.

“We seek to revalue the worldview of Indigenous peoples such as the Shipibo and others, so that we do not lose our ancestral roots. We possess profound knowledge of nature and an intuitive understanding of how to preserve the Amazon ecosystem; we simply need to regain stewardship of our lands. We also wish to invite visitors to our communities to experience the living Indigenous culture, with its customs, dances, arts, languages, and ancestral medicines. All of this is a precious heritage of humanity that must be urgently protected.” Roger Bardales, Ambassador of the Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon

Members of Congress expressed their support and emphasized the importance of preserving Indigenous peoples and, through them, the protection of nature.

During the concert that followed, attendees enjoyed dancing to the music of Cumbia Masha, a fusion of traditional melodies and contemporary rhythms. Indigenous participants also presented traditional dances and showcased ancestral handicrafts.
